Donate to the Havana Tornado Appeal

The British Cuba Solidarity Campaign has donated £2,000 to the relief appeal following the shock tornado which ripped through five municipalities on 27 January.
Six people were killed and 195 injured in the worst storm to hit the Cuban capital for 80 years. Damage to homes and infrastructure was considerable, with total and partial collapse of buildings, and winds tearing up and overturning trees, vehicles and electricity cables.
Work is already underway to repair property including damaged schools, hospitals, utilities and public buildings, and re-establish services.
If you would like to donate to relief efforts, CSC has launched an appeal to collect donations. We will make regular bulk transfers to Cuba to avoid international banking fees on individual's transactions and difficulties people may have with personal bank transfers due the US blockade.
100% of donations will be passed on to relief work being coordinated by government agencies and ministries in Cuba.
Other donations

By card or phone: For credit card or bank transfers call +44 (0)20 7490 5715 or email office@cuba-solidarity.org.uk
If you prefer to donate directly to the appeal account set up by the Cuban government, you can do so via the Banco Financiero Internacional (BFI), account number 0300000005093523. Donations via this account may incur international transfer charges.
CSC reiterates its solidarity with the Cuban people in the mammoth task they have ahead to rebuild their communities. We call once again for the US government to end its inhumane blockade of the country so that the Cuban people can access the building materials and equipment they will need to reconstruct Havana following this tragedy.

UK government highlights ban on British companies complying with blockade

Sir Alan Duncan MP, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, has again made clear the British Government’s opposition to United States extraterritorial blockade policies against Cuba.
On 22 January, in response to a parliamentary question from David Davies MP, Mr Duncan reaffirmed that it was “illegal”under the UK Protection of Trading Interests Act 1980 for British companies to “comply with extraterritorial legislation such as the US embargo”.
The Ministry of International Trade also responded similarly to a question from Karen Lee MP, chair of the All Party Group on Cuba over what plans the government had to support British companies if the US decided to lift the suspension of Title III of the Helms-Burton legislation.

The aggression against Venezuela must stop

The aggression against Venezuela must stop

The Cuban government had released a statement condemning “the attempt to impose through a coup a puppet government in the service of the United States” in Venezuela and expressed its “unwavering solidarity” Nicolás Maduro’s government.
“The true objectives of the actions against Venezuela are to control the vast resources of that sister nation” said the statement in reference to the South American nations vast oil reserves. Cuba also condemned the shameful role of the Organisation of American States to implement a policy of “regime change, which has not been imposed due to the unwavering resistance of the Venezuelan people and their willingness to defend the National sovereignty.”

Sadness at the loss of Jeremy Hardy, supporter of Cuba and wonderful person and campaigner

CSC was deeply saddened by the death of our good friend Jeremy Hardy. He was a wonderful person, a man of solidarity and action, and a great supporter of Cuba.
Jeremy performed at a number of benefit concerts for the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and took part in campaign actions against the blockade and in support of the campaign for freedom for the Miami Five.
Our thoughts and love are with his family and friends at this sad time.
