Apathy.

No serious change, remotely popular sovereignty, no protection and advance of the common good will be forthcoming without prolonged, organized, and massive civil disobedience — genuine popular resistance
— Paul Street
What has  happened to a society with so many terrible things happening like record homelessness, massive inequality, people in work having to use food banks and unable to get decent housing, cuts degrading our social support mechanisms  and councils unable to provide even the most basic services like maintaining toilets and roads? Thirty years ago there would have been massive demonstrations furiously rejecting the policies of bedlam but now there is only apathy.

Extinction Rebellion are a few sane people in an instance society, who regard them as a nuisance, whilst the arctic icecap melts fifty years ahead of the climatologists direst predictions and islands like Tuvulu begin to disappear. And yet again most are apathetic even though their grandchildren face catastrophe. Was Thatcher right when she declared that, “their is no such thing as society”. Are people so immersed in an electronic world of social media and computer games that the real world has become their virtual world in an insane decoupling from reality?
It’s time to wake up or it will be too late.
