On AlJazeera’s nine a.m. news a few days ago I watched a young Englishman in distress -
stood by the Mahatma Gandhi statue in London, supporting peaceful supporters of Palestine Action, too frightened to speak to their interviewer for fear of being arrested. This is happening in England, the cradle of democracy, and where free speech had previously been a freedom cherished by her countrymen.
It was apparent from the photograph that was bravely shown on the BBC website ( the usual timidity shown by the BBC News department apparently not extending this far) that the protesters carrying banners sating “Support Palestine Action - I oppose the Genocide “ we’re mostly elderly and probably consisted of devout Christian’s and Quakers. I think that Churchill, a champion of free speech, would have been appalled at this incident and the draconian legislation which was too hastily introduced as a knee jerk reaction from this government, who have a track record of introducing legislation which has to be subsequently rescinded.

From the BDS movement.
We must escalate pressure and peacefully disrupt all forms of complicity to contribute to ending Israel’s unspeakable genocide and to dismantling its regime of settler-colonial apartheid. Only then, can we enjoy freedom, justice, equality, and what Desmond Tutu calls “our full menu of rights.”
